How can you check if the framing has been done with anti-reflective glass?
Anti-reflective glass has a characteristic reflection color, which occurs from light wave manipulation through AR coatings. Artglass AR 99 Water White has a neutral green reflection color that can be seen under an angle. It's characteristic to all anti-reflective glass and you also see it on prescription glasses.
What is the difference between anti-reflective and non-glare glass?
Anti-reflective glass is ultra-smooth, clear glass processed with optical nano coatings that eliminate reflections. The result is smooth glass that's ultra-transparent and easy to clean. Non-glare glass is treated with a 'matte' finish that diffuses light, resulting in decreased glare. However, the etched surface is harder to clean and obscures the details in the framed work.
How can I cut Artglass AR 99 Water White to size?
To help you avoid scratching your new Artglass during handling, we have added special film on the UV-coated side that can be removed just before completing the framing. Using your preferred cutting method, first use a multi-material cutting tool to lightly cut the protective film. Flip the product to the other side and score the glass along the same line. Break the glass and safely store your off-cuts without removing the protective film.
Is Artglass AR 99 Water White glass safe to transport?
When transporting glass, proper safety measures should always be ensured. Artglass AR 99 is not shatter-resistant, hence physical damage is possible. However, if properly secured, glass can be transported once or twice. If you're planning to move your framed artwork frequently or require physical protection against seismic activity, choose our anti-reflective Artglass Lifetime Acrylic for additional protection against shattering.
What should I do if I notice artwork damage behind Artglass AR 99 Water White?
Artglass AR 99 Water White glazing will make sure your artwork is protected from UV light, but there are many other conditions that can potentially affect the artwork within the frame. The matboard choice, the mount type, spacing, and other choices will affect the environment of your framed piece. As soon as you notice any unwanted forms of deterioration within your frame, you should consult a certified framer who is knowledgeable in all the aspects of conservation framing.
How to determine which side is the UV-coated side?
The protective film is applied on the UV-coated side. That means, as long as you haven't removed the protective film, you'll be able to determine the UV-coated side. If the film has been removed, the easiest way to identify the UV-coated side is by performing the "scratch test": to do this, make a small scratch on the glass surface close to the sheet's edge (it will later be covered by the frame's lip). The UV-coated side will scratch more easily. Remember to score the glass from the other side and always frame the artwork with the UV-coated side facing the artwork.
